Forestry Discussion Group

Participants meet to discuss challenges and opportunities of today’s forest industry, including effects of the Mountain Pine Beetle, the rising Canadian dollar, and the falling US markets. With a proactive approach and collaborative efforts, the Forestry Discussion Group has made valuable contributions to community wellness and sustainability through the following initiatives:

Negotiations to develop co-generation (and other
bioenergy) and pellet plants;
• Expansion of a value-added post and rail
manufacturing plant;
• Heavy industrial equipment training programs
– with skills transferable to various sectors,
including mining, construction, and agriculture;
• Development and implementation of a Community
Wildfire Protection Plan for the Village of Burns Lake
and its direct vicinity;
• Initiating fuel mitigation activities for high risk
hazard areas within the Municipality and Rural
Area B.
