Participants meet to discuss challenges and opportunities of today’s forest industry, including effects of the Mountain Pine Beetle, the rising Canadian dollar, and the falling US markets. With a proactive approach and collaborative efforts, the Forestry Discussion Group has made valuable contributions to community wellness and sustainability through the following initiatives: |
Negotiations to develop co-generation (and other
bioenergy) and pellet plants;
• Expansion of a value-added post and rail
manufacturing plant;
• Heavy industrial equipment training programs
– with skills transferable to various sectors,
including mining, construction, and agriculture;
• Development and implementation of a Community
Wildfire Protection Plan for the Village of Burns Lake
and its direct vicinity;
• Initiating fuel mitigation activities for high risk
hazard areas within the Municipality and Rural
Area B.
